About

Bill Curtis is a freelance journalist, Metro columnist, and owner of BC Media.

I got my break into journalism through local radio in Manchester. During this time, I operated the station’s community news hour and broke stories, such as local authority’s plan to lower bus fares for 18-21 year old and the Conservative mayoral candidate defecting to Reform UK in the midst of the local election in Greater Manchester. Afterwards, I found a role at the Trafford Post newspaper, where I achieved my first front page splash on covering the Manchester Marathon. Then, I joined a regional outlet, covering topics from culture to community events.

In April, a few months before the July 2024 election, I joined Politics UK, where I provided accessible, timely, and non-partisan coverage of British political news on X for an audience of over 370,000. As Deputy Editor at Large, I interviewed (shadow) Cabinet ministers on a regular basis, wrote in-depth analysis on the website, and edited and worked with freelance contributors across the globe.

Since leaving these roles, I have gone full-time with BC Media, the news agency I established in May 2023. It specialises in exclusive home affairs investigations, with a reputation for well-sourced and highly credible stories in print and online. I’ve been able to take on lengthy investigations that usual in-house media teams wouldn’t be able to.

My work frequently appears in the Sun, Daily Telegraph, Private Eye, Independent, Middle East Eye, Computer Weekly, Big Issue, Joe, Jewish Chronicle, Standard, Schools Week, FE Week, Yahoo, Politics UK and Manchester Evening News, among others. (Please see the home page for some of my recent exclusives!)

I balance this with a part-time role as a Political Correspondent at The London Economic and as a Columnist for the Metro newspaper.

I’ve interviewed some of the most prominent figures in British public life – from senior politicians like James Cleverly, Andy Burnham, Neil Kinnock, Mel Stride, Nigel Farage, and former Australian PM Tony Abbott to campaigners like Sir Alan Bates, as well as dozens of backbench MPs and select committee chairs. My work has also brought me into conversation with leading union leaders, renowned academics, industry experts, actors, models, and even a Britain’s Got Talent winner.

In 2024, I was honoured in the Palace of Westminster with a British Citizen Award for “exceptional contributions to the community and being an inspiration to others” after raising thousands of pounds for good causes and promoting community cohesion. I went for the biscuits, left with a medal!
